In New Zealand, if you have alopecia or need to wear a wig because of other medical conditions, you are entitled to a Government subsidy.

The subsidy scheme was substantially changed in March 2005 to allow for lump sum claims, so please contact the Ministry of Health (Healthpac) or Freedom Wigs Ltd for further information.

Donating/Selling your hair to Freedom
We buy natural hair, 14 inches (35cm) or longer, that has not been dyed or permed.
When the hair is cut, please tie it in a ponytail with all hair pointing in the same direction. (Unfortunately, if it is picked up off the floor it has no value).
Please post the hair to us, or drop it in to 62 Vogel St Dunedin, and enclose this Checklist.
The hair will be assessed (for suitability, length and weight), and we will be in touch within a week to advise its usefulness and value.
Here are some examples, for a ponytail weighing say 3 ounces (85 grams):
14 inch @ $20 per ounce = approx $60.
16 inch @ $30 per ounce = approx $90.
18 inch @ $34 per ounce = approx $102.
We pay more for longer lengths.
This money can be paid directly to you, or we can donate it to a charity of your choice.
